Source: Peter Crüger's letter to Philipp Müller of August 1623, written at Danzig, thanking him for writings of Kepler's that Müller had sent. Crüger quotes an unnamed Italian on Kepler; the 1927 editors suggest Magini or Galileo, with a query. The original is in the Bibliothèque de l'Observatoire, Paris (B, 1, 9; 89, 9. J. 31). Printed in extracts in Nova Kepleriana 4, ed. Walther von Dyck and Max Caspar, Abhandlungen der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Math.-naturw. Abteilung 31, no. 1 (Munich, 1927), 108.

English translation of the Latin extracts printed in Nova Kepleriana 4 (1927), made for Plain Old Text. Each paragraph translates the corresponding extract of the original; the omission marks (…) are the 1927 editors’. Italics follow the editors’ emphasis.

Thank you for sharing Kepler’s writings. They are marvels (as that Italian [Magini?, Galilei?]The 1927 editors' guess. Giovanni Antonio Magini of Bologna died in 1617. used to say), like the man himself. Whenever I read these and other things of Kepler’s, I seem to be carried out of myself, I know not where. I have put these obscure things aside for a time, since for me war is rising out of war.
